Right, apologies for being slightly quiet in August, we took up running! Exercise for weight loss was handy, but we were still eating healthily and feeling good! We’ve still been having skinny syrups and leaving skinny food co reviews on all their products, but we’ve also been out and about. You can read more about our exercise and fundraising here. A quick tip: 10K is a lot further than you think. But for now, it is back to business. Weight loss.
Weight Loss coming out of lockdown
For many of us, lockdown went one way or another. For Healthy Food Reviews, we thrived on it. We lost a combined 4 stone in weight and body fat. For others though, it was more of a struggle. Being stuck inside can weigh heavily on your mental health, as well as your physical health. Piling on the weight could make you feel a bit sluggish. But it is not all exercise that causes weight loss. Sometimes, your diet can help you and is just as important for losing weight as your exercise routine.
For us, we weren’t active before lockdown. This meant we had to expand our food horizons. Trying new foods like butternut squash, couscous, Quorn, Halloumi and Oats really opened up your diet. We’ve had egg salad, Diet Cola Chicken, Cheesy Pasta, Cheeseburger Pasta, Spaghetti Carbona and even a lovely new way of making a healthy and low-calorie lasagne.
Losing Weight: 80% of the work is done in the kitchen and 20% in the gym
Yes, exercise is important. But if a gym is acknowledging how much work you need to do in the kitchen, then you know it’s important. The gym and exercise will tone you up, but your diet is where you really earn your keep. Imagine it starts to rain, or lockdown comes again and you can’t get out, if you were relying on exercise then potentially you won’t be able to do this anymore. If this does happen and you continue with an unhealthy diet, the weight will pile back on. All that weight loss you achieved through exercise and lifting weights will be lost and you will have to start all over again.
Healthy Food Reviews have expanded our food horizons and trained our taste buds. 6 months ago, cheeseburger pasta, butternut squash, halloumi AND onions would have never made it into our diet. Veggies aren’t quite there, but bananas and tomatoes are now part of our diet. Parent’s, friends and family cannot believe the difference.
Try different things in your diet but don’t drop exercise
So, essentially, after all our rambling, what we are trying to drum home is that you need to expand your diet. If you eat the same things over and over again, regardless of how healthy it is, you will become bored. You may develop a food intolerance, which is something that the NHS acknowledges. But also you need to still exercise. A walk of 15 minutes a day has shown to do absolute wonders for your mental health, as well as its physical ability.
